Organizational surveys are conducted to monitor the various processes that take place in an enterprise. Business owners, world over, have realized the importance of surveys today. Increasing the employee morale, monitoring the employee performance and satisfaction levels, attainment of goals, improvement in skills, these are some of the prime objectives of conducting surveys.  Apart from that there are many other types of hr surveys which individual companies use within their enterprise. Such surveys are specifically aligned with the functioning and work processes of that company. Generally it is the HR or Human Resource department that conducts these surveys. Formulation of survey questionnaire, informing the employees about it, conducting the survey and then collecting and recording the information are some of the tasks related to hr surveys. The hr department is responsible for all these steps. Apart from these, follow-up is another very important step, which is generally ignored by many companies. Once data has been collected through the survey, it should be properly evaluated and the findings should be further utilized. For example: if a survey is conducted about the employee performance, then the information collected through this survey should be utilized further. The employees, who have shown significant improvement in their performance, should be nominated for appraisal. Provision of training should be made for those employees, whose performance is below the satisfactory level. Hr surveys are a highly useful method of collecting valuable information. This information can be related to the employee behavior, performance, work culture, company policies, etc. Conducting a survey is of no relevance until the collected data is used for the betterment of the company or its employees. Thus the hr department should make the follow-up process an integral part of hr surveys. Using this information in a constructive way can do wonders in improving the employee morale, performance and company growth.

An employee is the biggest asset of a company. Employees, with their efforts and hard work, play a key role in the growth of any business. Ensuring that they are happy and satisfied in their work environment is crucial to maintain their performance levels and competitive attitude. Various surveys, like attitude survey, communication survey, retention survey, benefit survey, etc, are conducted by companies to ensure that their employees are satisfied with the company policies and work setting. Exit surveys, along with the above mentioned surveys, is a useful tool to understand the perception of the employees. An exit survey is conducted when an employee is leaving the company. There could be many reasons which might have influenced his decision. It might be related to the company environment, work culture, individual growth, management policies or something entirely different.  Exit surveys help to determine the exact reason behind employee’s decision. The reason for which an employee leaves a company can have a significant impact on its future prospects. It is very crucial for companies to know that why an employee has made such a decision and then rectify the issue if it is related to management or company policies. Resolving such issues on time can help to avoid the loss of any more employees, for the same reason, in future. Along with that exit surveys also help to know the overall experience of the employee while working in a company. Information gathered through such surveys can benefit a company immensely. It allows the management to understand that how their employees perceive their company and what are their expectations. It can also help them to rectify any discrepancies that might be present in their company, so that they can create a better work atmosphere for their current and prospective employees.

Strategies to conduct exit interviews

Exit interviews are conducted to enable the company for the appraisal and improvement of employee’s retention policies. The organization offers an opportunity to the employee to converse about the reasons for departure. Exit interviews are the best way to comprehend the reason for leaving. The style of interview would obviously be different for all the employees. The employees who are getting retired or whom the organization has fired need not undergo exit interviews but the employee who is leaving for some reason but the organization wants to retain that employee must undergo the exit interview. Few employers bound the interviews to supervisory, departing management, technical employees and sales. However, these interviews must be conducted for all the departing employees regardless of their designation in organization. Leaving an organization is typically a voluntary decision of an employee; exit interviews are conducted only to receive feedback from the employees for the improvement of the organization. So, do not treat the exiting employee as a formality or casually and ensure that the interview is structured with a purpose. Try to find out as much as you can so that you will be able to avoid further resignations. The most useful method for an organization is to prepare an interview form with series of questions that you want to ask from the employee. You must ensure that the interview is being conducted by appropriate staff. A senior manager or human resource manager who has very less contact with the employee can conduct the interview. The next thing that you must keep in mind while conducting an exit interview is that you must ensure that the interview is conducted in neutral environment where the room is not much confrontational or imposing. Ensure the employee that whatever information is being provided by him would be confidential so that the employee can talk freely.
